Husband of suspect in death of 2-year-old girl in hot car says unintentional tragedy

MIAMI – A Homestead woman remains behind bars on Sunday night charged with manslaughter after leaving a two-year-old in a hot car for several hours, killing her.

The tragedy raised many questions for the two families involved.

On Sunday evening, Andrea Martinez of Local 10 News spoke with the suspect’s partner for 24 years, who said it was all a horrific accident.

Police said Juana Perez-Domingo, 43, left the toddler locked in a hot vehicle for several hours on Friday.

“She forgot, or, I don’t know, the only one who knows is her,” said Pedro, Perez-Domingo’s husband who refused to give his last name. “All she said to me was goodbye my love.”

Pedro said she must have accidentally forgotten the child.

He said Perez-Domingo had only been carrying children for about six months.

“It was a tragedy, it wasn’t intentional,” said Pedro. “We don’t really know what happened. The law here blames her, claiming to murder, but it wasn’t like that.

Friends outside Perez-Domingo’s home on Sunday also said it was an unintentional tragedy.

In court on Saturday, a judge granted Perez-Domingo a tougher bond of $ 50,000 and house arrest, fearing it might pose a flight risk.

Meanwhile, the mother of the child still has a lot of questions.

Speaking to Local 10 News on Saturday, she said she wanted to know what happened to her daughter, what time she died and why she was not contacted.

She said she paid Perez-Domingo $ 40 a week to take her child to daycare.

According to court documents, Perez-Domingo would not have a driver’s license and she did not have the child in a car seat.
