Washington used a strong second-half performance on both sides of the ball to erase a 21-point deficit and came in 3-0 on the season with a thrilling 24-21 victory over Utah at Husky Stadium on Saturday night when the quarterback Dylan morris connected with tight end Cade Otton on a 21-yard touchdown pass with: 36 left in the game
Morris really struggled in the first period, but he was on fire when needed, leading the Huskies for 88 yards in under four minutes to find Otton for the winning touchdown. The rookie in the red shirt finished the night 23 of 38 for 272 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions while Otton, for the second game in a row, was his first target, winning eight receptions for 108 yards and two touchdowns.
For Utah, the transfer to South Carolina Jake bentley, which replaced an injured starter Cameron Rising, was 16 of 23 for 144 yards and a touchdown, but had two critical second-half interceptions that helped Washington come back and seal the victory.
First year rear You Jordan rushed for 97 yards and the Utes finished the night with 215 rushing yards, but Jordon also had a critical fumble deep into Husky territory, which cost Utah the opportunity to put more points on the board.
As the Huskies trailed 21-0 early in the second half, Washington kicked off and walked 72 yards in six games and ended the trip with a two-yard touchdown dive by Kamari Pleasant. The big play of the practice was a 38-yard pass by Morris to Terrell Bynum who put the ball on the two-yard line, preparing for the touchdown by Pleasant.
Washington’s defense held firm on Utah’s next run, placing Bentley 4th and 1 at Husky 41 and three games later Morris hit Otton for the first of his two touchdown connections, 21 yards, to draw Washington four points at 21-17.
On the defensive side of the ball, that of Washington Zion Tupuola-Fetui finished the night with six tackles, three sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery and Edefuan Ulofoshio led the way with 14 tackles.
Washington, now 3-0 this season, is expected to host Stanford, 1-2, who beat Cal 24-23 on Friday.
