A comedy about strippers who illegally kidnap money from Wall Street men made a killing this weekend. No criminal intrigue is necessary.
Hustlers, of STX Films, has opened about $ 33.2 million in domestic ticket sales between Friday and Sunday, exceeding expectations. This success comes after an aggressive marketing campaign, rave reviews (it currently holds 88% fresh notes on Rotten Tomatoes) and rumors that this film might well be a first Oscar nomination for Jennifer Lopez, one of his stars.
Based on a 2015 article by New York Magazine and directed by Lorene Scafaria, the film is centered on a young woman embodied by Constance Wu, who starts working in a strip club in Manhattan, where she goes through Destiny. There she meets Ramona (Lopez), a former dancer who introduces Destiny into a program of attracting wealthy men to the club and, with the help of cocktails and possibly drugs, to hijack their credit cards. Despite all their success, the strippers of "Hustlers" came in second place at the box office, behind another more sinister artist: Pennywise, the killer clown, who continues to haunt the theaters in "It Chapter Two".
The adaptation of Stephen King to Warner Bros. finished its second weekend with sales of about 40.7 million dollars.
