During CES 2019, Apple had a banner saying "What's going on your iPhone, stay on your iPhone". Apple was trying to project an image that worries the privacy of users, unlike companies like Google. Now, Apple is back with another billboard, which says "We have to stay out of your way", and this time on the Toronto East waterfront. Apple has specifically chosen to display billboards at this location due to the presence of Alphabet Sidewalk Labs.
Sidewalk Labs is an Alphabet company, just like Google. Sidewalk Labs has released a three-volume Master Plan for Innovation and Development (MIDP) proposal on how to develop Toronto's east end waterfront. Instead of criticizing the plan and its details, Apple tries to improve its image by criticizing the sister company of Sidewalk Labs, Google. Sidewalk Labs has already indicated that it does not share with Google urban data, user data or personal data, and that it has its own business model. It is unfortunate that Apple is trying to target Sidewalk.
If Apple really cares about the privacy of its users and is not satisfied with Google's privacy policy, it should cancel the research agreement with Google. Apple receives nearly $ 12 billion a year from Google to make Google the default search provider on Apple devices. In fact, a significant portion of Apple's revenue growth is due to Google's research agreement. Apple basically allows Google to be the default on its devices for dollars, but it will publicly criticize Google for strengthening its image of confidentiality. Hypocrisy!
