As we’ve heard more “Apple car” rumors in recent weeks, it appears that Apple is indeed in talks with automakers to produce its first electric car. Following a report from the Korean site Hankyung, Hyundai has confirmed it has preliminary discussions with Apple on the production of its new car.
The original report from the Korean website claimed that Apple had negotiated with Hyundai Motor to make the rumored Apple car. Hyundai is reportedly helping Apple produce its two electric vehicles and develop the special batteries that will power the Apple car.
According to Hankyung, part of the development of Apple Car components will take place at one of Hyundai Motors’ facilities in the United States. The report also corroborates what Bloomberg said earlier today about the Apple car in 5-7 years, as she claims the car will be introduced in 2027.
However, what is more interesting and unexpected is that Hyundai itself confirmed these rumors after the report. A company spokesperson said CNBC that Apple is in talks “with a variety of global automakers, including Hyundai Motor.”
This isn’t the first time rumors have suggested that Apple will be relying on partners to build its own electric car as the Cupertino-based company does not have ready-made facilities to build a car. Last year, Reuters reported that production of Apple cars is expected to begin in 2024 with “breakthrough battery technology” providing longer range and lower cost.
It’s still unclear when Apple will unveil the Apple car, but it looks like the company is still working on it with consistent plans to introduce it before the next decade.
