I do not know why he did that

Devon Erickson, Colorado's distressed mother, told The Post newspaper on Wednesday that she did not know why her son had opened fire on his comrades.

Stephanie Erickson, 56, whose son allegedly killed a man and wounded nine others with an accomplice during an afternoon shootout at a STEM school near Denver on Tuesday, said she was not ready to talk about this incident.

"We just need a little time now," Erickson told The Post as she crumbled in tears.

When asked if her son had been bullied or if she had any idea why he had committed such an atrocity, she replied, "I do not know, no." and then started crying louder. "I'm sorry, I just can not talk right now. Thank you."

Devon Erickson, 18, will have his first hearing on Wednesday, when prosecutors will announce the first charges against him.

He should be charged with 30 counts, including a first-degree murder charge after deliberation and 29 counts of attempted first-degree murder, according to the Denver Canal, which cites judicial records.

Devon Erickson acted in concert with another suspect, a minor who has not yet been identified, police said. This person should not be accused Wednesday, the authorities said.

The police initially called the second suspect a man, but then changed the sex to a woman. Sources told the Denver Canal that the suspect is transgender and is currently transitioning from woman to man.
