I love Kristen Stewart’s Christmas looks in happiest season

Last week, Hulu released the The happiest season, a lesbian Christmas romantic comedy directed by Clea DuVall. The film follows Abby (a curmudgeonly Kristen Stewart) who plans to propose to his much larger girlfriend, Harper (Mackenzie Davis), while on vacation. Things are going well until Harper reveals that she didn’t introduce herself to her Tory parents on the way to their annual Christmas party, forcing Abby to pretend she was Harper’s roommate for the duration of their stay.

The result is a Christmas party that will make you cringe and maybe cry a little bit. And while The happiest season Has its critics and supporters, one thing I think we can all agree on (besides the devastating warmth of Aubrey Plaza’s character) is that Kristen Stewart knows how to dress for a holiday party.

Throughout the movie, Abby dresses like … well, like the way Kristen Stewart would likely dress if she attended an office Christmas party: in a series of tailored jackets and pants, from moccasins to heels and button down shirts with most buttons undone. With her blonde headboard and skinny black twillies, she looks less like someone lining up for eggnog and more like someone sitting in the front row at Chanel:

Now I know no one is going to a holiday party this year, but Abby’s chic holiday looks got me thinking about my own story with holiday dress up. I am not a person of sequins and tinsel, and yet every year when vacation clothing collections appear in stores, I become convinced that I am. All this eye-catching holiday marketing makes me feel like the only thing in life I miss is a metallic skirt and a sequined sweater. Next thing I know, I’m at a party dressed like a stranger to myself, my kneecaps are frozen, and I once again wonder how I forgot I love pants.

Watch Abby mop in a black silk camisole while the rest of the cast The happiest season The wool strung with garlands was a heartwarming reminder that I didn’t have to look like a human Christmas tree during the holidays. Once again, I have to thank Kristen Stewart for reminding me that I should stick to my moody personal style, even though I was never cast to star in a holiday romantic comedy. Next time we’re allowed to have holiday parties, catch me in a suit and a skinny scarf.
