I never have the biggest shakes of season 2, ranked

This piece is full of spoilers regarding the second season of I have never.

In the second season of I have never, Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) is still grappling with the sudden loss of her father. But, as a teenage girl with emotional baggage, rampant hormones, and a classic case of teenage personal involvement, she also engages in impulsive and hurtful behavior. To put it bluntly: Devi is kind of a jerk this season. You still support her because you know she is able to grow up to do not be a jerk. But still: measured on a scientifically calibrated jerk-o-meter (note: not a real thing), its levels are quite high.

Devi is not alone in this department. Several characters from this season behave like real morons, to varying degrees. That’s why we’ve decided to make this ranked list of the most choppy individuals from season two of I have never. It’s kind of like Devi’s list of pros and cons of Paxton and Ben, except we couldn’t be careless enough to leave this list somewhere others can find it… oh, that’ll be sure. Internet ?

10. Dr Chris Jackson (common)
The dermatologist with whom Devi’s mother Nalini (Poorna Jagannathan) ends up sharing a practice initially comes across as rude, contemptuous, and overly status-obsessed. But he’s also played by Common, and you know Common wouldn’t be cast on a Mindy Kaling show unless he’s a romantic interest in the woman who hates him the most at first (that would be Nalini). That’s why Dr. Jackson simply sneaks up to # 10 – his jerks turn into confident sympathy pretty quickly.

9. Eleanor (Ramona Young)
To be clear: Eleanor is definitely not a jerk. But she goes through a choppy phase when she starts dating Malcolm, refusing to speak to Devi and Fabiola because they warned her that Malcolm was cheating on her. Granted, they were wrong, but they were clearly looking for their friend’s best interests, and they apologized to Eleanor and Malcolm, and Eleanor again took time to forgive them. On the other hand, his reaction is a bit relatable. As Eleanor notes, it’s very exciting to date an unemployed actor.

8. Ben (Lewison years)
For the sake of transparency, I must admit that I have never been fully Team Ben. The romance between him and Devi has always felt a bit forced, in an attempt to create a love triangle, and season two has only made me feel stronger about it. So, while it is true that Ben eventually forgives Devi for cheating on him and also helps her when she needs it during the relay race, he also starts dating Aneesa and displays that in Devi’s face. ‘a pretty callous way. Even though he’s a likeable character – you know, daddy’s troubles – a sense of entitlement still oozes out of every one of his pores. While Ben can be nice, I also feel like there’s a good chance Ben will turn out to be a jerk.

7. Malcolm (Tyler Alvarez)
A former Disney Channel star, Malcolm clearly wants to hang out with whoever is most impressed with his pseudo-celebrity status. This is why he is attracted to Eleanor. Malcolm’s scale of ego also explains why he’s so rude to Eleanor – even though he isn’t cheating, Devi and Fabiola are right to warn Eleanor about him! – and why he’s arguably committing the worst boyfriend sin imaginable: breaking up with your partner via text message right before you’re supposed to come in and make lines. Malcolm: two thumbs down, no stars.

6. Paxton (Darren Barnet)
Paxton is evolving a lot this season. He begins to focus more seriously on his schoolwork and is interested in his Japanese heritage and the history of his grandfather. These are good things. But he also engages in some big-scale jerk behavior that ranks him higher on this list than Ben. Before realizing the point of doing his own homework, he asks Devi to do everything for him. Later in the season, he starts dating Devi every night but insists they don’t go public with their relationship, which is Rude. Eventually he comes to himself and, in a flood of allusions to Pretty in pink, accompanies Devi in ​​the winter dance. But he does some pretty blatant stuff before he gets there.

5. Charu (KT Thangavelu)
Nalini travels to India to visit her family and begins to make plans for her and Devi to settle there. But her mother, Charu, can hardly bother spending time with her own daughter, who incidentally, I repeat, lost her husband less than a year ago. Nalini’s father isn’t very supportive either, but Charu seems more actively inconvenienced by Nalini’s presence, to the point that she tries to set her up with a potential husband who is essentially a sentient corpse. She also says she will be there for her daughter “weather permitting”. If time allows it ?? Sorry, Charu, but that puts you in the top five I have never shakes of season two.

4. Shira (Hanna Stein)
Ben’s Insta-obsessed ex-girlfriend established her jerk in the first season. But she’s really taken it to another level this season by spreading the rumor, with the help of her toadie Zoe, that Aneesa has an eating disorder. Obviously, Devi was horrible that she had planted the seed of the rumor in the first place, but it wouldn’t have gone anywhere if Shira hadn’t spread it. In conclusion: Shira sucks.

3. Dr Elgin Peters (John Mawson)
The influential scientist and founder of the lab where Kamala works is absolutely not interested in really mentoring Kamala or even helping her in a situation where she is clearly being abused by the strictly male and predominantly white colleagues she works with. All this guy cares about is people just sitting there in awe as he talks about his greatness. In a way, he’s like an even worse future iteration of Malcolm, if Malcolm was a budding scientist instead of a Disney Channel star.

2. Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan)
I know this is controversial. But Devi is a real jerk this season. She’s cheating on both Paxton and Ben, and I’m sorry, but the fact that she thinks she’s going to move to India soon is no justification for that.

She sort of makes Paxton get hit by a car, ruining his swimming career, which I think should have been a bigger problem than the show claimed. Basically, this was a problem for Paxton for one episode, narrated by Gigi Hadid, but only because Chrissy Teigen had to step down as narrator after (ironically) it was revealed that she had bullied others into line in the past. (Chrissy Teigen: an accessory I have never shake of season two? You make the call!)

Devi is cheating in this relay race. She tries to sabotage Aneesa’s status at school on several occasions, including starting the rumor of an eating disorder, which turns out to be true. She cheats on her grandmother so that she can sneak off to school while she is suspended and offer the worst excuses ever to Aneesa. When her mother has a single date, Devi harasses her, follows her to Dr. Jackson’s house, and disrupts the evening. Almost all of the decisions she makes are selfish and horrible.

I know she’s capable of being good, which should allow me to subtract a few jerk points from her overall score. But the fact that she is capable of it, and chooses not to be, over and over again, makes matters worse. Do better, Devi.

1. Evan (PJ Byrne)
While a lot of people make bad choices this season, no one does it with more consistent irremediability more than Evan, the guy who runs Kamala’s lab and treats her like he’s there to be his gopher. Whether it’s making his choice geek activities a prerequisite to gaining his favor, or – and this is really the worst – trying to get Kamala’s name out of a post inspired by his ideas. (What were those ideas, exactly? I have no idea!) Evan is the prototype toxic guy. I tried to think of a redemptive quality of this character and couldn’t find one. Sorry Evan (and PJ Byrne), but you’re the biggest jerk in I have never season two.
