Just before landing her role as Kate Pearson in NBC's mega hit "This Is Us," Chrissy Metz was a superior broker to the Ten Commandments, with exactly 81 cents.
Three years later, Metz, one of the biggest TV stars, debuts on the big screen in "Breakthrough", a religious film about a ferocious mother who wants her son to come back to life thanks to the power of the pray.
"I really believe in the power of prayer and the collective conscience," Metz told TheWrap. "Personally, it helped me navigate really difficult waters."

"Breakthrough" tells the real story of John Smith, a 14-year-old from St. Charles, Missouri, who fell through the ice of Lake St. Louis in 2015. He had been immersed in the 39 ice water for 15 minutes before the paramedics can take it out. Doctors at a nearby hospital tried to resuscitate him for nearly 45 minutes without success.
It was only after his mother, Joyce, prayed aloud that her heart started again. Over the next few days, Smith surprised the doctors by fully recovering, as his family, friends, and community continued to pray aggressively for him.
"It's undeniable," said Metz. "That's what's so great about this story, it's literally doctors and nurses, EMTs, no one has an explanation of how John Smith survived this drowning."

Metz said that she was able to relate to the story. His mother has suffered a stroke in recent years, which left her with a language disorder.
"Honoring their story and paying homage to my mother was very important and I love the movies of wellness and I want to bring hope and inspiration into people's lives", has she said.
Faith-based movies are not just good movies, they are good business. With the Disney / Fox treatment distribution, "Breakthrough", which opens Wednesday, will have a larger output than most denominational movies. The studio plans to release the film on more than 2,700 screens. By way of comparison, almost all the films published by the Pure Flix religious distributor were distributed over a maximum of 1,400 to 1,600 copies. The exception was "God's Not Dead 2", which opened on 2,419 screens and raised $ 20.7 million during its theatrical tour.
The film is produced by DeVon Franklin, who also produced "Miracles from Heaven," a 2016 Christian hit movie starring Jennifer Garner, which grossed more than $ 61 million, according to Mojo's Box Office.
"There are so many things we can really bog down with," she said. "I think we need good ones."
