The world was mesmerized by American swimmer Caeleb Dressel during his triumphant performances at the Tokyo Olympics. While its events may be over in Tokyo, don’t count it towards the Paris Olympics in 2024.

“I would love to be part of the team, but I have to be part of it first,” said the 24-year-old Florida native. “I don’t have priority over anyone in American swimming. I have to make the team first, then we can talk about Paris.”

Dressel won five gold medals in Tokyo, including three in individual events: the men’s 100m butterfly and the 50m and 100m freestyle. Dressel told CNBC’s “The News with Shepard Smith” that although he landed on the top step of the podium, he “didn’t have a perfect run,” but learned a lot and was eager to get back on track. routine.

Host Shepard Smith asked Dressel what needs to change about the Olympics. The seven-time Olympic gold medalist told Smith he’d like to see less of the fanfare, so he can just focus on his sport.

“When it comes to change, maybe don’t put that much of the spotlight on some of these athletes,” Dressel said. “If it was up to me, it would just be me and my trainer in the water, and no one else, really. I don’t really care about the attention, I just want to swim fast.”
