LONDON (AP) – Actor Ian McKellen apologized for his comments suggesting that allegations of sexual abuse made against Kevin Spacey and Bryan Singer resulted from artists' malaise with their own sexuality.

McKellen tweeted Saturday Comments made during the Live #QueerAF podcast were "clumsily expressed". He said, "I suggested that if people who are in hiding know about their sexuality, they will not abuse others. Of course, it's wrong. "

He went on to say that he "would never tarnish, never tolerate abuse of any kind. I deeply regret my careless remarks and I apologize without reservation for the sufferings that I have caused. "

Both Spacey and Singer denied having committed wrongdoing related to the allegations.
