Ice Age mastodon bones found on a farm in southern Indiana

SEYMOUR, Indiana – A construction team found very old bones during a search on an Indiana farm.

Workers were installing sewer lines when they unearthed a collection of large fossilized bones.

The family sent pictures of the bones to the Indiana State Museum, where they learned that the fossils probably belonged to an Ice Age animal that measured about 9 feet and weighed up to 12,000 pounds.

"Tony and I both thought it was a chicken bone, a cow bone, something like that." The conservation officer was telling me that it was safe to eat. was probably acting from a juggernaut or a mammoth, "said Joe Schepman, the brother-in-law of the farm's owner.

The bones essentially comprise a defense, a part of the skull and a maxilla with teeth.

"It's amazing to think of something as big as lurking in this area," Schepman told the Seymour Tribune.

They plan to donate bones to the Indiana State Museum in Indianapolis.
