By Casey DeFreitas

Monster Hunter World's first expansive DLC, Iceborne, got a full trailer and release date during Sony's latest State of Play. During the three-minute trailer, we finally saw in detail some returning monsters, including the fierce Nargacuga, as well as brand new monsters, such as the Ancient Dragon Velkhana, on a snowy terrain and well Moreover. The official Capcom feed unveiled even more details immediately after. Keep reading for all we know about Monster Hunter World: Iceborne.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Console and PC Release Dates and Prices

During Sony's state of play, the release of Iceborne was announced on September 9th. Iceborne will release on PC this "winter", which could be late or early 2020. The price is not known at the moment, but the owners of the digital versions of the base Monster Hunter World will be able to buy the extension separately. There will also be a physical world Monster Hunter: Iceborne Physical Master Edition that includes both Monster Hunter World and the Iceborne Expansion in one package.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne pre-order bonus and Deluxe version

Yukumo

Ice preorders are available now. The layered armor set of the Yukumo series will be available only for those who will pre-order the extension. Iceborne will also be available in a "luxury kit" including the Silver Knight layered armor kit, three gestures, two sticker games, a face paint, a hairstyle and a room decoration game .

Master's degree

Iceborne introduces a new rank of hunters into Monster Hunter World, called Master Rank. This follows the pattern of low rank, high rank, master rank and is equivalent to the G ranking of the previous parts. Rank G traditionally includes not only more difficult versions of existing monsters, but also new monsters, as well as new armor sets with different bonuses made from tier-G monsters.

New Locale: Hoarfrost Reach Details

snowlocale

Hoarfrost's reach is Monster Hunter World's newest venue, introduced with the Iceborne Expansion, and will be the largest venue of any Monster Hunter World. This is a forest region that introduces snow effects, including snow track effects that developers have not been able to implement in the Monster Hunter series so far.

Due to the coldness of Hoarfrost Reach, hunters will have to consume hot drinks, made from hot pepper plants, to prevent their stamina from taking a hit. In addition, there is an area with natural hot springs, which produces the same effect as hot drinks. More and more hoarfrost will be unblocked as Iceborne's story progresses, which will be revealed at about halfway point. Hoarfrost Reach also introduces a new music theme, which was played for the first time during Capcom's official spring update feed.

Monster Hunter World: New Iceborne Monsters

Among the new local endemic life forms such as the Rime beetles, which leave Crystalburst ammunition behind, and the affectionate monkeys, there are new monsters to hunt in Iceborne – but they will not be available until the required rank will not have been achieved. Here are the ones we know so far. Come back soon for the official art of the new monsters.

Banbaro

snowyboi

Banbaro is a new raw vouivre who looks like the Duramboros, who made his debut in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. He is described as a monster at the beginning of the game, with fairly simple attacks. He has huge horns, and will use them to charge hunters. Depending on where you are fighting, he can pick up rocks or trees while loading. The reach will extend with a rock or expand with trees. It's also an herbivore, and seems to be pretty tame until its attacks. He likes to relax near the hot springs.

Beotodus

beotodus

Beotodus is like a snowy version of Jyuratodus and Lavasioth. He will attack as long as he is submerged in the snow. Hunters will therefore have to find a way to attract it to the open air to get clear attacks. We expect a mechanic to modify his resistances depending on whether it is covered with ice or not, in the same way that Jyuratodus' resistors are modified if they are covered with mud.

Velkhana

elderdragon3

Because Monster Hunter World essentially consists of investigating and searching for elder dragons, an elder dragon has been created to become Iceborne's iconic monster. Velkhana is defined by its use of ice attacks, but because it is an Elder dragon, it does not just use straight ice attacks. We will learn more about this monster in the future. Learn more about what are the elder dragons here.

Monster Hunter World: Monsters in the Renaissance

Until now, we've seen some monsters come back from previous Monster Hunter games in Iceborne.

Nargacuga

nargacuga

Nargacuga comes from the PSP title Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, in which he served as the flagship monster. He is classified as a flying Wyvern, but he prefers to fight on the field and does so effectively with fast and cunning attacks. Nargacuga will emerge roughly halfway to Iceborne's history. He will have "new tricks in his bag for Monster Hunter World" but he will keep all his old attacks. We see him fighting against a Rathalos in a territory war in the caravan.

In previous monster hunters, the Nargacuga is able to launch peaks of its tail. It also performs a slam attack with its tail and sometimes remains stuck to the ground if its peaks are extended. Although he prefers to fight on the ground, he flies away when he is threatened. The sonic bombs weaken it considerably, but this triggers Nargacuga's rage mode as soon as it recovers. This is show in the old forest during the trailer.

Popo

popop

Popo are herbivores that play a similar role in the food chain. In previous games, you could occasionally cut out a popo language to get special rewards.

Remobra

remobra

The Remobra are small flying monsters flying from previous Monster Hunter games. It looks like an icy hold on the monster.

New hunter actions: sling, claw claw, weapon customization

In a blatant disrespect for Sword and Shield users, all the types of weapon will be able to use the slinger with the drawn weapon. This should greatly increase the strategies available to fight monsters. There are also "New combos and new items" for all types of weapons.

claw

The biggest novelty is the slinger Clutch Claw. This draws a claw when preparing the slinger, which allows you to attack monsters. By clinging to a monster, some actions are available. For example, you can perform a flinch shot, which unloads all ground munitions in a monster and sends it in the direction you are in. This technique can be used to send monsters into traps or walls, or to open other opportunities to attack.

The Great Sword receives a powerful shot, allowing hunters to combine slinger shooting into a combo, which facilitates the landing of a charged attack by shaking the monster. With the equipped double blades, you can shoot avoiding – you can thus "go from attacking to tacky in the same combo". The Light Bowgun will receive other custom mods. A new mod allows you to reload by avoiding. For example, performing two consecutive actions allows you to make a slide and reload at the same time.

Another video on new weapons features will be released later this year. Check back for more information as you update. We at least know that we will see more Monster Hunter World: Iceborne at E3 in June.
