The remnants of Hurricane Ida wreaked havoc in the northeast on Wednesday night and affected play at the US Open in New York City.
The roof of Louis Armstrong Stadium was not up to the elements, as rain and wind could still pass through and affect the crowd and the game.

New York’s National Weather Service was forced to declare its first flash flood emergencies in the area, forcing the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to suspend all services.

Diego Schwartzman and Kevin Anderson were scheduled to meet before 7:30 p.m. ET, but didn’t finish playing at the stadium until after 1 a.m. Thursday. The game has been moved from Louis Armstrong Stadium to Arthur Ashe Stadium.

“Crazy time,” Schwartzman said after beating Anderson 7-6 (4), 6-3, 6-4.
“I was ready to play and wanted to finish today, not tomorrow. You never know what can happen,” he added, ruling out the possibility of moving the game forward. “I was trying to push … to play tonight.”

Armstrong Stadium was updated before the 2018 US Open and featured a naturally ventilated roof, and the space between the hall and the top allowed rain to enter the venue and blow onto the pitch. .

The storms killed a handful in parts of Maryland, New York and New Jersey and produced tornadoes in parts of the Garden State. The deaths and damage came three days after Ida exploded in the Gulf Coast region in the form of a hurricane on Sunday with winds of more than 170 miles per hour.
