Identification of the mother and twin girls killed in the crash of an I-465

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana State Police identified the mother and her two 18-month-old twin daughters who were killed in a terrible accident on I-465 Sunday afternoon.

Alanna Norman Koons, 29, and her 18-month-old twin daughters, Ruby and June Koons, died in the multi-vehicle accident, after being accused of turning back on the road. I-465 near Keystone Avenue.

Indiana State Police said that rescue teams were called to the scene around noon. The semiconductor, later identified as Bruce Pollard, told investigators that a car that was not involved in the accident had cut him off and that the driver had slammed the door shut before going off at full speed . Pollard said the incident forced him to snap on his breaks before meeting the traffic stopped in front of him. Investigators determined that it would drive well above the posted speed limit at the time of the collision, according to the ISP.

Eight vehicles were involved in the accident, six cars, a truck with a mobile home trailer and a semitrailer. One of the vehicles caught fire on the scene. The driver of this vehicle, Alanna Norman Koons, 29, and her 18-month-old twin daughters, Ruby and June Koons, all died on the scene.

Seven other people were injured in the accident and transported to local hospitals. One of these seven was considered to be in critical condition.

Pollard was arrested on Sunday night under three preliminary counts of reckless homicide and five counts of criminal indictment. The formal charges will be determined by the Marion County Attorney's Office.
