The famous restaurant brand known for its spiritual remarks in downtown Austin this time defends something bigger.
The sign located outside the El Arroyo tacos store has grown in popularity for the comical comments he's made in the past and now makes fun of the recent Whataburger sale.
After the Texas chain was sold to BDT Capital Partners, LLC, a Chicago-based firm, the sign made it personal by reading "DEAR CHICAGO IF YOU ARE INJURED, I KILL YOU", which was posted on Instagram from El Arroyo.
The restaurant's publication has received more than 15,000 mentions I like on Instagram.
Whataburger, an iconic burger chain from Texas, surprised many Texans when the company announced its sale.
Houston Texans Defensive End J.J. Watt tweeted that Texans should all donate together to buy Whataburger, then cook chicken and honey honey butter cookies all day and add kolaches to the menu.
Governor Greg Abott tweeted a George W. Bush meme with a picture of the former president in a vehicle, with the following words: "Enter J.J., we save whataburger".
Whataburger issued a statement accompanying their sale, stating that the commercial decision would help the hamburger chain grow in the United States.
The company tweeted "Texas, we do not want you to be upset, we will always be in Texas and we will represent you in a way that will make you proud.
