The PC version of Kingdom Hearts offers the latest hiccup in the insidious world of video game pre-orders. Four games from Square Enix’s maze of intrigue officially released on PC today via Epic Games Store where they are currently reduced by 20% until April 6. But if you’ve pre-ordered any of the games, you’re still eligible for a retroactive discount.
Anyone who prepaid Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Prologue to the last chapter, Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind, or Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory– no, I didn’t make up any of these names – I can get a partial refund, Epic tweeted earlier today. The refund should automatically be credited to the payment method used, so be sure to double-check.
If you don’t get your money back (hey, digital storefronts are wobbly) you can hit Epic straight.
Kingdom Hearts isn’t the only kerfuffle pre-order in recent weeks. Earlier this month, Square Enix ad this Outriders, the third-person shooter coming out this week, would launch on day one via Xbox Game Pass. But there was a catch: You could subscribe to Microsoft’s monthly on-demand gaming service and pre-purchased the game without always automatically receiving a refund. Instead, Game Pass members had to manually cancel all Outriders pre-orders.
We said it before. We say it again: don’t pre-order video games.
