Google says that it moves Nest devices to a unified Google ecosystem for simplicity. But simple can be complicated, as it certainly is the case here. In May, after users were rejected, the company announced that it would maintain Works with Nest connections for some third-party integrations.
IFTTT Popular applets for the company's camera, smoke detector, and thermostat are some of these exceptions. This bodes well for users who have taken the time to integrate the features of IFTTT.
However, users who choose to migrate a nest Google account is apparently going to break their connections in the process. The organization issued a double warning late last night, following a blog post on migration encouraging users to migrate.
By IFTTT,
- Do not migrate your Nest Account to a Google Account. Migrating your Nest Account will disconnect IFTTT and other integrations from Works with Nest. This process is not reversible.
- Do not disconnect Nest from the IFTTT system after August 31 because you will not be able to reconnect it. This is for users who do not migrate their Nest accounts to a Google Account.
For its part, Google says it wants to integrate Nest with similar automation features, which currently require third-party integration from services such as IFTTTT.
