The PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X are very big consoles – in fact, the PS5 is the greatest gaming console in modern history. Their size can make buying a new entertainment center that suits them a bit of a challenge. But Ikea has a solution to help: The company has created physical sizing guides in the form of look-alike boxes to help you determine which cabinets and entertainment centers can accommodate the new consoles. The sizing guides were photographed by a user on Reddit.
Fake boxes are roughly the same shape as consoles, with measurements written on the side. There is also a great marketing copy on the fake PS5 box explaining exactly what it is to be used for: “Which Ikea media storage unit will fit my new oversized game console?”
Lookalike boxes seem to be really practical. You won’t have to carry your PS5 or Xbox Series X to Ikea just to make sure they fit into your next entertainment center. (The new consoles are quite heavy!) But the decision to hold the consoles vertically or lay them horizontally is up to you. (I’m part of the vertical team.)
