The moans about a death threat are now the highest form of humble propaganda for Democrats in Congress and Liberals in the national media.
By the time one of them receives a threatening tweet from an unnamed person and no photo on the Internet, we all expect that we will do the same and deplore the state of our politics – bonus points if you can blame some Republicans, preferably President Trump, on "incitement to violence".
The latest episode of "I now have a death threat to my listening" was aired this weekend and Monday after Trump posted a video on Twitter splicing insidious comments on Sept. 11 by the representative Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., And images of the twin towers engulfed by the flames. This kind of thing was once called an "ad attack" and, believe it or not, boys and girls, they were perfectly acceptable. And they remain effective in the political debate.
This proved to be very effective, capturing with emotion the most deadly attack against America and Omar's casual attitude towards him. And of course, the opposition reacted with horror.
However, the best way to defend yourself is to claim victim status. Omar said in a statement Sunday that since Trump's tweet, she had "experienced an increase in direct threats to my life – many referring directly or responding to the president's video". She directly accused Trump of "violent rhetoric" and "hate speech".
This is how liberals get their opponents to shut up and stop beating them. They accuse them of "violent rhetoric", complain of subsequent death threats and sit besieged while the media ignore it.
Rolling Stone magazine said: "It should not be surprising that the smear campaign has led to death threats."
The Washington Post jumped on the train with a story about Omar's "hundreds" of death threats. The BBC wrote that she had witnessed an "increase in death threats" after the Trump video.
While Trump was in Burnsville, Minnesota on Monday, a local reporter asked him if he had any doubts about the video with Omar and the Twin Towers. Trump said no. And why would he? It was a brilliant video and it contained nothing wrong. It is perfectly acceptable to raise Omar's apparent disregard for the tragedy. Speaker of the House Democrats Nancy Pelosi understood something that was wrong with Omar 's remarks about 9/11. Why should the subject be banned to Trump?
Anyone with a public profile worthy of the name has received a death threat. Ask Trump how much he has received. And do not tell me that it has nothing to do with the Democrats and the media who routinely treat him as a racist, sexist and sectarian homophobe.
At a rally for the Trump campaign in June 2016, a Briton was arrested after grabbing a policeman's gun for the purpose of murdering him for murdering Trump, then a candidate. Like most future murderers in America, he had a history of mental illness.
The threats against Omar are no more remarkable than those directed against Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La. Oh, wait, this is a bad example. Scalise was not threatened, he was seriously injured after the support of a Bernie Sanders supporter on a baseball field where the Republicans were training since a match.
Nevertheless, death threats against public figures are unfortunately part of everyday life. Omar does not deserve special sympathy just because she has them too.
