The Democrat raised more than $ 832,000 in its first three months in Congress, a substantial advantage that puts it ahead of other members of the House of Minnesota and several other closely watched Democrats.

About half of Omar's transportation in the first quarter came from individuals who paid $ 200 or less – a measure of local financial support, new reporting to the Federal Election Commission.

CNN asked Omar's office to comment.

She apologized publicly in February after a reaction from both sides of the aisle for comments she had made on Twitter that seemed to suggest that support for Israel in Congress was fueled by funds tied to the US Commission for Human Rights. Israeli public affairs, often to the detriment of AIPAC, a prominent pro-Israel group.

The Congressional's comments sparked condemnation of Democratic House leaders, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who said in a statement that "Omar's use of anti-Semitic tropes and accusations detrimental to the supporters of Israel is deeply shocking ".

At the same time, however, the progressives embraced her and defended her as an important voice in the Democratic Party, expressing her concerns for her security and saying that she is doing so. face a different standard as a Muslim and a woman of color.

The biggest donors of the Omar campaign this year include the campaign committee of South Carolina Representative James Clyburn, a member of the leadership of the Democratic Party in the House. He donated $ 1,000 at the end of March.

Omar's rookie and one of her strongest advocates, New York representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, also contributed $ 2,000 to the Minnesotan campaign at the end of March, according to the results of the federal electoral commission.

Ocasio-Cortez recently called on other members of Congress to defend Omar and voiced concerns about the MP's safety after President Donald Trump posted a video on Twitter juxtaposing images of the September 11 terrorist attacks with images of the parliamentarian making a speech in which she referred to attacks. Democrats have widely denounced the president's video as an incitement to the congressman and Omar said that there had been an increase in threats to his life as a result of the tweet.

The first quarter figures of Omar place it in front of other first year Democrats who are reaping substantial sums before tough elections.

For example, Rep. Antonio Delgado, who defeated a Republican to take over the Hudson Valley Valley in the New York District in 2018, raised $ 755,000 in the first quarter. California representative Katie Hill, who toppled a Republican in southern California last year, raised more than $ 600,000.

Omar's fundraising has even surpassed that of Ocasio-Cortez, which raised more than $ 726,000 during the fundraising period from January to March.

If it continues its momentum, Omar will likely quickly exceed the $ 1.08 million it has raised during the two year 2018 election cycle.
