The total number of cases in Illinois now stands at 1,120,528, with a total of 19,138 deaths, since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the past 24 hours, laboratories reported 111,057 samples for a total of 15,844,619.

The positivity of the seven-day statewide preliminary test from Jan.22 to 28 is 5.4%.

The test’s positivity rate is a measure the state began providing in late October. It is calculated using the total number of positive tests out of the total number of tests. It is the metric used by state health officials to make decisions about mitigations.
Chicago moving forward?
The city of Chicago could move to Phase 4 of Illinois’ plan to reopen in the coming days, if its test positivity remains below 6.5%.
But Mayor Lori Lightfoot said indoor dining capacity limits would not change, saying it would be “irresponsible and dangerous” and reverse progress.
However, bar seating would be allowed and the size of the table inside could increase to six people. Bars and restaurants could also stay open until midnight.
A total of 1,304,475 doses of vaccine were delivered to providers in Illinois, including Chicago, with 496,100 additional doses allocated to federal partners for long-term care facilities, bringing the total number administered. in Illinois at 1,800,575.

A total of 58,357 doses were administered Thursday, making it the third day in a row Illinois has seen a record number of vaccines administered. On Tuesday, 53,628 doses were administered and 55,865 on Wednesday.

J&J said Friday that in the United States and seven other countries, the single-injection vaccine was 66% effective overall in preventing moderate to severe disease and much more protective – 85% – against more severe symptoms.
Only 1.4% of the population of Illinois has received two doses of a vaccine.
In Chicago, health officials said they only received about 35,000 doses of the vaccine per week, allowing them to administer just 5,000 doses per day, for vaccines requiring two doses.
“The federal government is ordering us to do first and second doses and to make sure everyone gets the doses at the right time,” Pritzker said.
Rather than vaccinating as many people as possible with the first dose, Governor Pritzker said the state is keeping vaccines in reserve for the second doses.
The IDPH reports that a total of 887,845 doses of vaccine were administered, including 131,401 in long-term facilities. The seven-day moving average of vaccines administered is 38,738.
The IDPH says vaccine distribution figures are reported in real time and vaccine delivery figures are late for up to 72 hours.
Pritzker said there are plans to launch walk-in sites once the vaccine supply increases. He also announced the creation of a new portal, coronavirus.illinois.gov, to provide the latest information on vaccines.
As of Thursday evening, 2,735 patients in Illinois were reportedly hospitalized with COVID-19. Of these, 532 patients were in intensive care and 297 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
