Ime Udoka says Celtics will have set from five

Ime Udoka says he will enter his first season as head coach of the Boston Celtics with a defined starting lineup. Udoka has indicated that he is not a fan of the match-based “plug-in” starter groups.

Udoka cautioned not to read too much about who opens the games for Boston in the preseason. He indicated that the Celtics will do a bit of mixing and matching with the squads to find which groups work together.

Most consider Boston to have three starters with Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart. Udoka said he would consider opening matches with a larger squad including Al Horford and Robert Williams. There has been speculation that the Celtics are starting offseason acquisition Josh Richardson or Dennis Schroder. Some believe Boston might consider placing sophomores Aaron Nesmith or Payton Pritchard in the opening squad.
