"Impatient" Leclerc showed his frustration

Leclerc, who started 15th after a mistake by Ferrari, eliminated him from Q1 on Saturday. He quickly took the lead and overtook Romain Grosjean for 12th place with a daring move inside La Rascasse before joining Hulkenberg.

He attempted to overtake Hulkenberg on the same right side a lap later, but he ran out of space, cutting the wall on the right side and turning around in Hulkenberg.

Leclerc was injured a few laps later, while Hulkenberg was forced into the pits with a puncture, which cost him a good position and eventually ended his scoring chances.

When asked if Leclerc had been too aggressive, Hulkenberg replied, "Yes, he was there. You know, he came first quite far, then I did not leave a void anyway and I saw that he had started, that I played fairly and that I opened the direction and tried to leave him some room. let us both get up.

"He spun, he just kissed me – I did not hit the wall or anything but he opened my rear tire. I think he was really too ambitious at that time. "

More from Monaco GP:

Hulkenberg stated that he had been informed that Leclerc had overtaken Grosjean at La Rascasse and that he was therefore planning a move.

"I was aware of it, my engineer told me that, I could feel it coming but you still have to weigh your chances as a driver and find out when it's a real opportunity or when [it’s] do not.

"But I think he was a little impatient today, obviously frustrated after yesterday and that he wanted to qualify, but that is Monaco and it does not always work that way."

Leclerc, for his part, felt that he "had to take risks" given his starting position and felt that Hulkenberg had not left him as much room as Grosjean.

"I just said [to Hulkenberg] I think it was a racing incident, I do not think it left much room, "Leclerc said.

"I had to take a lot of risks, which we did. It was fun at first, unfortunately it ended in disaster, but it is a bit of Monaco.

"Unfortunately, when we start 15th, which is not our true position … it was hard to come back for today."

Grosjean, who described the previous passage of Leclerc to La Rascasse as a "kamikaze" movement, took two positions when the Monegasque attempt at Hulkenberg did not take place – and said that he could see happen.

"Leclerc was very, very aggressive," said Grosjean. "I opened the door to not have contact, but I knew that someone would not do the same thing, and that happened the next round, so we have two places there -low."
