EXCLUSIVE: As Mission: impossible 7 is nearing completion after a remarkable Pandemic Era filming across the globe, I can reveal that the franchise’s Eighth Edition back-to-back filming plan has been altered by Paramount.
Sources said this was simply due to the changing release schedule. Star Tom Cruise will now be required for promotional duties by the studio for Top Gun: Maverick ahead of this film’s scheduled release on July 2 and will be inactive for a while. Once that film is released – hopefully in crowded cinemas in a post-Covid world – production on W: 8 can start, which means the gap shouldn’t have too much of an impact.
Deadline understands that articles in the UK tabloids this weekend claiming Mission: impossible 7 had been disturbed by pandemic-related travel issues are false. As director Christopher McQuarrie posted on Instagram yesterday, the crew have now wrapped up a successful shoot in the Middle East and are returning to London to apply some “finishing touches” to the footage.
Mission: impossible 7 is on the schedule for November 19, 2021 and appears to be on the right track – a notable achievement given the challenges of any film production, let alone a production of this scale, at this time. Mission: impossible 8 remains dated November 4, 2022.
Paramount declined to comment.
