Improved Box Score: Brewers 6, Cubs 4

The Cubs have now lost an incredible 11 straight games to the Brewers. It’s one of those streaks that would be hard to pull off half-intentionally, let alone when you’re really trying not to lose. There are only a number of silver liners you can try to pick up when a team has got you so well all year round.

This has yet to give the Brewers the division, but the victory earned them a place in the playoffs. Bully for them.

To the Cubs’ credit, they did rare damage to Corbin Burnes, scoring three runs in six innings on three walks, one RAP and six hits. He doesn’t have too many exits like that. And the Cubs also ended his streak without a hit … a pitcher, nothing less:

Speaking of Steele, he was mean tonight, but too wild to use it. He only lasted four innings, with four walks to tie. He allowed just two hits and struck out four – he wasn’t super touchable tonight. He was just wild, which obviously won’t play out. Just keep going into those reps, and if the next open with him as a multiple innings reliever waiting for another chance, so be it. This part of 2021 would still have been worth it.

The Cubs stayed the course all night, but Manny Piña scored TWICE, including a Scott Effross delay to give the Brewers the lead for good.

Sorry for the current reality …

Full score out of the box.
