Winding four hours and 10 minutes into this game, the Chicago Cubs claimed their second straight win after a four-strikeout (and ultimately one save) appearance from Rowan Wick, who now has 4 saves in the lead of the team this season. And that? I think he and Jeremey Jeffress will continue to get the most save opportunities here in the short term, until Craig Kimbrel proves the improvements he’s shown in his last two outings are here to stay. .

As for starter Yu Darvish, his overall results were good tonight (6.0 IP, 1ST) as he landed his fourth consecutive quality start while keeping his ERA at 1.80, but there were issues. While he struck out 7 and walked only one, Darvish allowed 8 hits and plenty of hard contact. Even still, he did manage to come out of a huge moment early in the game, which perhaps ultimately tipped this one in Chicago’s favor:

The Cubs had a few other tense moments in this game, but also enjoyed three double plays – that will usually do the trick.

Offensively, it was a big night for interim lead man Ian Happ, who has reached base four times, including his fifth homerun, one single and two walks. I have a feeling that if he continues to take the lead in the leading APs in the absence of Kris Bryant and continues to base himself in the process, he might end up taking over before the end of the season. . Just a feeling.

Jason Heyward also had a great night at home, using the opposing ground while grabbing two hits, but the other momentous moment of it belonged to left fielder Kyle Schwarber, who hit a monster explosion that made that Javy Baez watches him fly like a kid playing little league:

Speaking of Baez, his night got off to a rough start (2k), but he eventually added a double and a walk, before flying off to right field (we love to see him go the other way). Hopefully these are progress to get back to the plate.

The Cubs had 9 total hits plus 8 steps and absolutely crushed the Cardinals pitchers into the ground tonight, so good on them. It was long, but it’s over and the Cubs went 15-7.

By the way, the next game starts in about 2 hours… and there’s another one after.
