Improved Box Score: Cubs 9, Tigers 3 – August 24, 2020

Javy Báez and the Cubs needed a night like this. Maybe it’s just a game, or maybe it’s a night when Báez started to see the ball better. He had actually had a few nicer plays at the end of the White Sox series, so maybe?

It was also a great night for David Bote, who actually got a hit with the bases loaded. He was also the last Cub to do so on Wednesday.

On the mound, although he retired from a two-run homerun in his last run of work, overall Alec Mills has been fantastic tonight. He was the version of Mills we love to see: pinpointing all of his pitches throughout the area, constantly shifting gears, giving very few hard contacts, picking up a few strikeouts along the way. I especially liked seeing him after the implosion against the Cardinals. He bounced back.

Ryan Tepera continues to look so handsome there, as hitters react to the cutter and his 95 mph fastball with confusion. And Colin Rea returned in a typical backup role, which I dig.

Score from the full box.
