Improved Box Score: Diamondbacks 6, Cubs 4

Just like I enjoyed yesterday’s win for what it was – a time to be excited for a comeback, because whatever – today I did. do not enjoy watching the bullpen implode. The Cubs tried to pull the magic out of the 9th inning again, including another double from Rafael Ortega and a chance for Willson Contreras to play the hero again, but it wasn’t enough.

Zach Davies was more or less Zach Davies (useful for five innings, not great, not excruciating), but the reliever box was struggling from the jump and throughout the rest of the game. The intermediate lifters at the moment are all in a bit of trouble.

The Diamondbacks have tried, on several occasions, to blow this game up – they’re what their record says they are – with several key double-plays, including what are you-Kole-Calhoun doing. But Eduardo Escobar’s kickoff in two insurance periods proved enough to keep them from blowing him up.

At least it was a good day for this guy …

Full score out of the box.
