In her scent, Elisabeth Moss actually sings

As a grunge-rock-like diva resembling Courtney Love in the new movie "Her Smell," Elisabeth Moss's vocals do not stink.

But again, her role as Becky Something – the vanguard of the 100% female trio "Something She" – does not exactly need someone who possesses the vocal powers of a Franklin Aretha , Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey.

For Moss, it's less about technical virtuosity than snarling attitude, which she gives an abundant coverage in a cover delirious Only One, entitled "Another girl, another planet" at the beginning of the film.

Becky's state of waste in the first half of the film certainly lends itself more to modesty than to perfection. When Moss sings and scratches a bit of Charles Manson's "Garbage Dump" in the studio, she is supposed to sound like a junk.

A more faithful test of Moss's vocal quality comes when a now-sober Becky sings Bryan Adams "paradise" to her young daughter. Reduced to a voice and a piano, Moss takes all the emotional notes as she touches the sentimental heart of the lyrics.

Later, probably in her best vocal performance, she brings a painful lassitude to the spare ballad "Control", one of the original numbers of the film.

But on another original song, the rocker "Breathe", Moss does not look shaken and does not growl to make you believe that Becky was really a star. It's more "yawn" than "breathes".

Although it's not the revelation that Bradley Cooper was in "A star is born," Moss refrains from holding a melody – though it's doubtful she'll get a record deal with that.
