India has granted emergency use approval to its first DNA-based vaccine against Covid-19 as the second worst-affected country in the world seeks to step up its vaccination campaign to stave off a possible third wave of infections.
A three-dose vaccine developed by the Ahmedabad-based company Cadila Healthcare Ltd., which reported 67% effectiveness against symptomatic Covid in clinical trials in July, received the green light on Friday, the government said in a statement. This is the second locally developed plan to receive approval.
