104 out of over 1,500 Indian Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims in Nepal rescued | India News

KATHMANDU: Over 100 Indian pilgrims were evacuated from Simikot in Nepal on May 1, 2010, at 1:00 pm. Indians who have been stranded in Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage in Tibet .

"So far 104 pilgrims have been rescued from the site," an Indian Embbady official told PTI.

Four embbady staff, two each in Simikot and Tibet, have been deployed with necessary facilities in India, the official said.

The evacuated pilgrims were taken to Nepalganj, bordering India.

Meanwhile, two Indian Pilgrims – Narayanam Leela, 56, of Kerela and Satya Laxmi of Andra Pradesh – have died , Humla district police office said.

Leela died suddenly while visiting Mansarovar, while Laxmi died in Taklakot, deputy superintendent of police Rabin Shrestha was quoted as saying by the Kathmandu Post.

Earlier, the Indian embbady here in 525 Indian pilgrims stranded in Simikot in Humla district, 550 in Hilsa and other 500 on the Tibet side.

The Nepalganj-Simikot-Hilsa route of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra (through Nepal), the statement said, has the situation persistently.

The embbady said in Nepalganj and Simikot, who are personally in touch with every stranded pilgrim. They are ensuring that proper food and lodging are available to the pilgrims.

They have been told to agree first priority to clearing the situation in Hilsa, which is lean in infrastructure compared to other areas.

The embbady has been struggling with the past, but it has not been possible.

The mission is also looking at various alternatives to the stranded people from Simikot, including through alternative routes through Simikot-Surkhet / Simikot-Jumla / Simikot-Mugu.

PM Modi expresses concern about Mansarovar pilgrims stranded in Nepal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed concern about the Indian Mansarovar pilgrims stranded in Nepal due to bad weather and asked officials to ensure that they get all the help.

"PM @narendramodi is in touch with MEA and other top officials of the Indian pilgrims stranded in Nepal. The Prime Minister 's Office (PMO) said in a tweet.

The PMO also re-tweeted a tweet from the Indian mission in Kathmandu, which said two commercial aircraft from Nepalgunj had landed at Simikot and that rescuing the stranded pilgrims would be a gradual process, depending upon the weather condition.
