The Indian Olympic Association (AIO) named Tuesday its contingent of 524 members for the next Asian Games Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia
The contingent includes 277 men and 247 women who will participate in 36 sports disciplines
The athletics team has the largest number of participants with 52 members. The country has also selected members for eight new sports, where the athletes have shown promise – Karate, Kurash, Pencak Silat, Roller Skating, Sambo, Sepaktakraw, Triathlon and Soft Tennis.
Other Disciplines India will participate in are – Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Bowling, Canoeing (Sprint), Canoeing (slalom), Cycling, Equestrian , Fencing, Gymnastics, Golf, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Kabaddi, Rowing, Sailing, Shooting, Squash, Aquatic – Swimming, Swimming – Diving, Tennis, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Weightlifting, Wrestling and Wushu.
I wish all 524 members of the Indian contingent the best for the 18th Asian Games to be held in Jakarta Palembang 2018. The contingent was chosen keeping in mind the long-term vision of the event. Indian Olympic Association to prepare and encourage the most deserving athletes for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo according to qualifying criteria.

In June, AIO submitted a tentative list to the Ministry of Sports of the Union, consisting of 2,370 athletes and officials gathered. The list has now been reduced to 524 after athletes have met the qualifying criteria in their respective disciplines for the 2018 Games.
At the last Asian Games, held in 2014 in Incheon, the Indian contingent presented a total of 541 athletes 28 disciplines.
