P oké Bullets are illegal in Ryme. This should be your first idea that this is not an ordinary video game movie. The sprawling metropolis where detective Pikachu is presented is a paradise for humans and Pokémon for living in harmony, but this polish of civility disappears quickly as the first service of CGI-Pokémon fans becomes turns into a real neo-black adventure.

Directed by Rob Letterman, Detective Pikachu is funny, emotional, sometimes dark, and of surprising maturity. The only thing that holds this film is a dull performance by Ryan Reynolds (detective Pikachu himself) who seems to be on Deadpool – autopilot for children in what could have been his most iconic role at this day.
