4.0 magnitude minor earthquake strikes Delhi-NCR

Light tremors were felt in the Delhi-NCR area and in other parts of northern India after a magnitude 4.0 earthquake hit the Sonipat from Haryana and its neighboring regions.

The earthquake hit Sonipat, which is 40 km from Delhi, at 3:37 pm Sunday.

There was no immediate report of loss of life or property damage from anywhere, authorities said. The jolts, which lasted a few seconds, were felt in Sonipat and in several adjacent districts of Haryana, besides the National Capital Region, including New Delhi.

According to the Center for Seismology, the epicenter of the earthquake was at 28.9 degrees north latitude and 77 degrees east.

The earthquake, clbadified as moderate, was at a depth of five kilometers. Tremors were also felt in parts of the west of the UP. Many people in Delhi also took Twitter immediately after feeling the tremors of the earthquake

In May, strong tremors were felt in Delhi and in other parts of northern India after an earthquake of magnitude 6.2. In June, two earthquakes struck nearby Himachal Pradesh. On June 17, a magnitude 3.2 earthquake on the Richter scale was recorded at 3:36.

Its epicenter was at Shimla, on the border of Kinnaur district, which shares a border with China. Delhi is in seismic zone 4 where there are major fault lines that often cause earthquakes.
