Every time you open Google Maps, you get an overview of your location and a Explore tab that lets you search for nearby places and see restaurants , events and attractions around you. Move around the map and use the same tab to help you plan a day out, a weekend getaway or a long vacation. But Google Maps is working to further accelerate the discovery of surrounding places by providing additional shortcuts in searches.
Currently, you get four icons in the tab Explore whose one is dedicated to opening the more detailed category selector. There are three left, one being almost always dedicated to restaurants and the other two turning between bars, cafes, events and attractions.
With the new user interface, the icons are doubled. This gives you seven quick shortcuts. discarded with the Plus button. The different categories will no longer have to fight for your attention, and there is room for other types of places that have rarely appeared before, namely hotels and parks.
Left: Current design. Right: New user interface tested with eight icons.
Although you can still type "parks" in the search bar, it is nice to have a quick and easy way to access useful searches. In addition, many users have probably never operated the More icon or knew that they could search for a generic "hotel", which could help in the discovery of the feature in Maps.
You can recover the application on Play. Store via the widget below or get the latest beta from APK Mirror. However, the functionality seems to be used as a server-side test and does not depend on an application version.
Maps seems to test another variant of these eight icons, showing them this time on a line. The user interface, however, looks very narrow, with round icons cut on the sides to fit a single line. It can therefore be a bug or a short-term transition before smaller icons open. In addition, if you look at the two screen shots below, you will notice that the colors are the same but the categories are not. Thank You Himanshu, Samarth and Bharath
