Dwayne Johnson has unveiled an official release date of December 13, 2019, for Sony's sequel to "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle".
The untitled movie will open a week before the launch of Disney-Lucasfilm's "Star Wars: Episode IX". Sony Pictures President Tom Rothman revealed in April to Cinemacon that the surprise superproduction of 2017 was to be followed by a premiere at Christmas next year.
"Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle," with Johnson and Kevin Hart, has earned $ 404 million nationwide and $ 557 million internationally. "Jumanji" finished second on his first weekend at "Star Wars: The Last Jedi", achieving the unusual feat of climbing to first place in his fifth weekend, and staying at the top for the three following images.
The sequel will bring Johnson, Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan to the resumption of their roles, while Jake Kasdan should return to the presidency of the director. Matt Tolmach will be back with Johnson's Seven Bucks Productions team, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia.
"Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" is a continuation of the movie "Jumanji" released in 1995 with Robin Williams. He was placed today with four high school students detained together, much like the premise for "The Breakfast Club". The foursome is badigned to the basement of the school and then transported into the Jumanji board game after activating the discarded game.
Johnson announced Wednesday on his Instagram account.
