Last week saw a lot of debate in Kerala about the reinstatement of actor Dileep in the Malayalam Film Artists Association. Many questioned this initiative, endorsed by the new president Mohanlal, and the film industry Kannada also wrote to the body. In a letter signed by 50 artists and technicians, members of the film industry Kannada and the Film Industry for Rights & Equality body approached the secretary general of the body asking them to reconsider the same, in expressing their shock.
The effort to bring this letter together, led by actors Chetan and Sruthi Hariharan, has seen the support of many actresses and the younger generation. The letter reads: "We, members of the Kannada Film Industry (KFI) and the Film Industry for Rights and Equality (FIRE), write this letter to express our indignation and disappointment at to a decision made by the Malayalam Movie Artists Association at a general meeting on June 24, 2018.

AMMA, an organization with an honorable history of work, sadly and unfortunately reinstated Mr. Dileep, who was expelled in 2017 for being the main accused of kidnapping and badual badault charges in 17 articles of the Indian Penal Code.

Although we are part of the constitutional concept of innocent until proven otherwise, we believe that the reinstatement of AMMA is even more inappropriate since the victim is a member of AMMA and that the accused has not yet been acquitted of any wrongdoing.

With issues such as women's safety and gender equality at the forefront of the national debate, our film industries have a heavy responsibility to open up exemplary paths for the rest. of the society.

We at KFI and FIRE are asking AMMA to immediately revoke its judgment to reinstate Mr. Dileep until all the charges are met and to maintain the moral compbad that our film industries have at their best.

We anticipate a quick and sincere action from AMMA, on which we intend to collaborate to create safe and healthy work environments for all our industry personnel. "
