Samsung India puts Noida on top with the world's largest mobile factory

Not China or South Korea – and certainly not the United States – the world's largest mobile factory housing label immediately put Noida ahead of the global industrial map with respect to Consumer electronics.

Samsung's new Samsung Electronics plant, located in Sector 81 in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, will see Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Moon Jae-in landing together on a nearby helipad from the factory to officially inaugurate it. Monday.

One of the first electronic product manufacturing facilities installed in the country in the early 1990s, the factory began by manufacturing televisions in 1997. The mobile phone manufacturing unit has been added in 2005.

Last June, the South Korean giant announced an investment of 4,915 rupees for the expansion of the Noida plant and, after a year, the new plant is ready to double production.

The company currently manufactures 67 million smartphones in India and, with the new plant in operation, it is expected to manufacture nearly 120 million mobile phones.

Not only mobile phones, the expansion of the current facility will double the production capacity of Samsung's consumer electronics, such as refrigerators and flat-panel TVs, consolidating more the company's leadership in these segments.

According to Tarun Pathak, Associate Director at Counterpoint Research, the new facility offers Samsung an edge in reducing time-to-market.
"This will help Samsung to bring local features to devices powered by R & D. Here, the company can also bring export opportunities for Samsung to SAARC and other regions," said Pathak at IANS.

Samsung has two manufacturing plants – in Noida and Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu – five R & D centers and a design center in Noida, employing more than 70,000 people and expanding its network to more than 1.5 million retailers.

Founded in 1995, Samsung India laid the foundation stone of Noida 's factory next year. In 1997, production began and the first television was deployed. In 2003, the production of refrigerators began.

In 2005, Samsung became the leader in the panel TV market and, in 2007, the Noida factory began manufacturing mobile phones.

In 2012, Samsung became the leader in mobile phones in the country and Noida's factory rolled out the very first device "Galaxy S3". Today, Samsung is the market leader in mobile segments.

The company currently has more than 10 percent of its overall production in India and aims to increase it to 50 percent over the next three years.
"For Samsung, India is among the top five smartphone markets in the world, with the US being saturated, Korea and Brazil not progressing significantly, India offering great opportunities on all price segments, build a bigger manufacturing base here, "said Jaipal Singh, Senior Market Analyst, IDC, IANS.
