2.0 will be the second version of Rajinikanth from 2018 after Kaala which opened its doors to fair revisions but a poor box office performance in June. Kaala which was set against the backdrop of the Dharavi slum in Mumbai, was Rajinikanth's second film with director Pa Ranjith
2.0 is Rajinikanth's third collaboration with the director Shankar.
