Rafael Nadal has dominated Juan Martin del Potro in a five-set duel to reach his first semifinal of Wimbledon since 2011.
In a match filled with entertaining rallies between two of the biggest hitters in the game, Nadal came of a down to win 7-5, 6-7 (7), 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in 4 hours, 48 minutes – the longest this year's tournament match.
Del Potro finished with 77 wins at Nadal 67 but was unable to convert any of his five break points in the fifth set. Instead, it's the Spanish who deserved the only breakaway and he eliminated the win at his first match point, leaving the fifth Argentinian hungry in the exhausted grbad.
Nadal will face Novak Djokovic in a rematch of the 2011 final, the last time the Spaniard had made the quarter-finals at the All England Club.
John Isner reached his first Grand Slam semifinal at his 41st appearance. The hard-working American beat Canada's Milos Raonic, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (7), 6-4, 6-3, to schedule a meeting with Kevin Anderson, from the USA. South Africa, at Wimbledon.
Isner's 41 attempts to make a semifinal are the second 50-year-old professional, behind Sam Querrey, who has won the last four at Wimbledon last year with his 42nd try.
Isner has not yet been beaten this year's tournament and saved the only break point that he faced on Wednesday. Raonic hit 31 Aces at 25 from Isner but was broken three times, including the last game of the match.
