Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly said Thursday that the new structure of the Ranji Trophy published by BCCI could well damage the importance of first-clbad cricket in India.

It also stipulates that the best D team qualified for the quarter-finals will be promoted to Elite A and B next season. Meanwhile, the team that finishes at the bottom of Group C will be downgraded to the plate group.
"This has been done, so the people involved will need to find a way around the problem, in the past the Elite and Plate groups were abolished because it was felt that the Plate Group's performance was not Sufficiently recognized, "Ganguly told Indian Express on Thursday confirming that the technical committee had proposed a different schedule.

The technical committee led by a left-handed drummer had suggested the introduction of a division B in the Ranji Trophy, which will be part of newly introduced teams. They had also proposed the introduction of a qualifying league that will be played between the two best teams in the Plate group and the teams placed at the bottom of Elite groups. The two finalists who qualify for the final will play the Ranji Trophy next season.
Their suggestions were not respected, however, when the reworked first-clbad structure was announced on 18 July by the BCCI General Corps. The 2017-18 season will start with the Duleep Trophy games starting August 17th.
