Kevin McIntyre, who suffers from a "serious setback in health," resigned as FERC President but will remain a Commissioner, and the White House announced Wednesday that President Trump has appointed Commissioner Neil Chatterjee to lead the Commission again. Earlier this year, McIntyre revealed that he had been diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2017 and that he had since undergone a successful surgical operation. He also suffered a back injury in a gymnastics accident in July. His recovery did not prevent him from carrying out his entire program, including hearings on Capitol Hill and speaking engagements, until at least September, when he was absent from the monthly public meeting of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. He also missed the FERC meeting in October.
"I have always striven to take on the extended duties of President – beyond the tasks of all Commissioners – with unwavering attention and vigor, despite health problems that have arisen throughout the day. McIntyre said in a letter sent to the White House on Oct. 22 and published by FERC on Wednesday night.
"However, I have recently experienced a more serious setback in health, leaving I am currently unable to badume the duties of president with the level of attention that the post requires and that the FERC and the American people I therefore propose to leave the position of President and his additional duties to be able to fully engage in my work as Commissioner while undergoing the necessary treatment to address my health problems. "
Chatterjee, who was acting deputy chairman prior to the 2017 swearing-in of McIntyre at FERC, said Wednesday night that he was holding the position of president "with a heavy heart."
"Although the period is difficult for the Commission, I want to badure my colleagues in the building and the stakeholders outside of it that my intention is to build on Kevin's hard work. on top of everything, I look forward to the day when my friend will regain his full capacity. "
Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) also thanked Mr. McIntyre for his leadership at the agency and he desired a speedy recovery
"I am confident that President Chatterjee will again effectively lead the agency, and I will work with my Senate colleagues to restore a full complement of Commissioners as soon as possible", declared Murkowski.
This decision leaves unchanged the composition of FERC among four commissioners, two Republicans – McIntyre and Chatterjee – and two Democrats – Cheryl LaFleur and Richard Glick.
Earlier this month, Trump named Republican Bernard McNamee, currently Executive Director of the Ministry of Energy's (DOE) Policy Office and former Deputy Energy Policy Advisor at the Ministry of Energy. 39; Energy. His appointment was based at least in part on his support for the DOE's failed notification of the proposed regulation to change the reliability and resiliency policies of the country's networks.
