7 new routes while KIA starts the winter schedule

The Kempegowda International Airport will begin Monday with its five month winter schedule with seven new routes, connecting Bengaluru to Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Udaipur, Prayagraj, Aizawl, Kolhapur and Phuket. The schedule will be active until March 30, 2019.

Phuket is the new international destination. GoAir offers a direct connection with the southern province of Thailand. Bengaluru will now serve 82 destinations, including 53 national and 29 international, announced in an official statement the operator of KIA, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL).

Three airlines – Indigo, Air India and Go Air – will launch additional flights from Bengaluru to eight existing international destinations. IndiGo will provide daily flights to Male, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong and Kathmandu; Air India will serve Bangkok and London; GoAir will operate in Male. Air India Express will fly to and from Singapore – four times a week – from 29 October.

The new domestic destinations are Kanpur, Gorakhpur and Udaipur (SpiceJet); Udaipur and Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad) (IndiGo); Aizawl via Guwahati (Jet Airways) and Kolhapur (Alliance Air).

The new airlines on their way to Bengaluru are Turkish Cargo and Air India Express. Turkish Cargo, one of the fastest growing air cargo services, will operate two weekly flights between Istanbul and Bengaluru – one via Colombo and the other via Daman 1 from 31 October. A total of 13 cargo airlines, including two International, now operate from the KIA.

Increased Runway Capacity

During the five-month period, runway capacity will increase to 40 air traffic movements per hour 38 Daily ticket dispensers will gradually increase to 766 (675 national and 91 international). This will represent a growth of 17% during the summer of 2018.

Market share of the airlines

The main international airline occupying this position by the vending machines will be IndiGo, with 10.4% market share of overseas operations, while Air India comes in second with 8.3%. IndiGo remains at the top of the domestic market with 46.2%. Jet Airways, including its subsidiary JetLite, will together account for 13.3%.
