Hockey World Cup: Increased Security for the Odisha World Cup | Hockey News

BHUBANESWAR: Rajendra Prasad Sharma, director general of the police (DGP), said Monday that strict security measures had been taken for the smooth running of the 2018 Odisha Men's World Cup.

The world cup will start on Wednesday and the inaugural ceremony will take place on Tuesday.

Sharma said it was one of the most difficult challenges for Odisha's police. In addition to the Hockey World Cup, a few other important events are taking place in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

He stated that security had been enhanced at the city's airport and at hotels where players and delegates were accommodated.

In addition, many remediation exercises are performed at the Kalinga Stadium to detect the presence of explosives, he added.

The opening ceremony of the hockey tournament will take place on Tuesday. Many celebrities come for the ceremony. The Bollywood actress, Madhuri Dixit, and the musical director, AR Rahman, have already landed in Bhubaneswar for the inaugural ceremony. Shah Rukh Khan will also participate in the opening ceremony.

Meanwhile, the legends of the 1975 World Cup winning hockey team also arrived in the capital before the opening ceremony.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik met the captains of the 16 tournament teams on Monday and took part in a photo shoot at the Mukteshwar Temple.
