A rally among PSU banks, the names of energy and computer science boosted the market. On the overall market, the Nifty Midcap index finished up more than half a percent.

At the close of trading, the Senbad posted 159.06 points, or 0.45% to 35513.14, while the Nifty was up 57.00 points or 0.54% to 10685.60. The width of the market was narrow as 1238 shares rose, compared to a decrease of 1320 shares, while 161 shares remained unchanged.

Infosys, TCS and BPCL were the biggest winners, while Sun Pharma and Hero MotoCorp lost the most.
