Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be invited to Pakistan for the Summit of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc), Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mohammad Faisal said on Tuesday. Punjab State Minister Navjot Sidhu had arrived in Pakistan for the dismantling of the Kartarpur corridor.
Speaking at an event in Islamabad, Faisal referred to the Indian Prime Minister's invitation to the Saarc Summit to be held in Islamabad in 2016, but was canceled after New Delhi has withdrawn from the terrorist attack in Uri, accused of elements based in Pakistan.
Faisal pointed out that Prime Minister Imran Khan had said in his first speech that Pakistan would do two things if India took a step forward. While responding to Modi's letter, Khan had stated that Pakistan was willing to resolve all outstanding issues through dialogue.
"We waged war with India, relations can not be settled quickly," said Faisal quoted by Dawn.
Faisal said that the Kartarpur Corridor will facilitate the visa-free travel of Sikh pilgrims between Dera Baba Nanak to Gurdaspur and Kartarpur Gurdwara to Narowal will be inaugurated on Wednesday and should be completed within six months.
He described the inauguration ceremony of the Pakistani part of the Kartarpur corridor as a great success for Pakistan.
Meanwhile, former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu arrived in Pakistan to attend the opening ceremony of the Kartarpur Corridor at the invitation of Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi. Prime Minister Imran Khan will perform the inauguration on Wednesday.
Sidhu thanks Khan and informs the Wagah reporters that he came up with "a message of love and peace".
"The seed sown by Imran Khan three months ago became a tree and 120 million Sikhs could not be happier. I want to thank the Pakistani Prime Minister and his officials, "he said while speaking in Punjabi.
"The Karturpur corridor will prove to be a path of peace and instead of 60, happiness can come in six months. This corridor will be the reason for opening borders between the two countries, "said Sidhu.
General Qamar Javed Bajwa, chief of the Pakistani army, proposed to build this corridor when he attended the inauguration of Imran Khan in August. The 4 km corridor will connect Dera Baba Nanak, Gurdaspur Indian District, Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib, Narowal, Pakistan, and provide visa-free access to Sikh pilgrims at Gurdwara built at the site where Guru Nanak died. .
Monday, Vice President President Venkaiah Naidu and Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh laid the foundation stone for the Indian section of the Gurdaspur Corridor.
