"From the beginning, we have embraced the rich history of Office and used it to inform design decisions. Bright colors have always been at the heart of the Office brand and the new icons are a chance to change our palette. Color differentiates applications and creates personality. For the new icons, we chose bolder, lighter, and more user-friendly hues – a nod to Office's evolution, "said Jon Friedman, head of design at Microsoft Office. , detailing the design of the new Office Application Icons.

Microsoft will begin deploying new Office icons starting with mobile and web applications in the coming months and then on other platforms.
