Berlin:

German Chancellor Angela Merkel's plane, en route to the G20 summit in Argentina, made an emergency landing in Cologne on Thursday because of a problem technical, said the Chancellery.

"Due to a technical problem, the official plane landed in Cologne," says the newspaper without specifying when it could leave.

The Airbus A340-300, named Konrad Adenauer after the first German Chancellor of the post-war period, was met on the tarmac aboard fire trucks. The DPA agency added that Merkel was waiting for a replacement plane to take her to Buenos Aires.

The plane returned from the Netherlands and landed in Cologne as it was the only base with a replacement aircraft, the news agency said.
