At least eight people died Monday following the fall of a ferry boat carrying 26 people into the Kali River near Karwar, Karnataka.
The navy reports that 17 people were rescued by fishermen and other people from the area. Rescuers are always looking for someone. A Dornier aircraft has been sent from Goa to participate in the rescue operations, the Navy added. Two Chetak naval helicopters have also been sent from Goa, according to the same source.
People reportedly visited a temple on an isolated island in Karwar district, according to NDTV. The boat capsized on the way back. Rupali Nayak, the district legislator, was on another boat. She stated that she and her team members were immediately rushed to help people and had fired two people out of the water after the capsizing.
The accident probably occurred after the driver lost control of the boat, the Superintendent of Police (Karwar) Vinay Patil told News 18.

The Chief Minister, HD Kumaraswamy, announced the death of pilgrims. "I am shocked to learn that the boat accident occurred near Sagara Darhana in Uttara Kannada," said the chief minister on Twitter .
The Minister of Finance and Skills Development, RV Deshpande, said that he was investigating the accident. "The rest is treated in a nearby hospital. Immediate relief measures are taken by the district administration, he added .
Of the 26 people reported aboard the boat, 17 people were rescued by other civilian boats operating in the area. Eight bodies were found by naval means and @IndiaCoastGuard deployed in the area. The search is in progress for the person still missing. Dornier a / c launched in Goa for the RS
